DoorKing 9220 Maximum Security Slide Gate Operator | Class III/IV | 2 HP | Variable Speed

The DoorKing 9220 is a Class III and Class IV maximum security vehicular slide gate operator rated for gates up to 2,000 lbs and 100 ft in length. Powered by a 2 HP motor through a 30:1 continuous oil bath gearbox with user-adjustable variable speed control from 1/2 to 2 ft/sec, the 9220 is specified for government facilities, military installations, airports, correctional facilities, and secured industrial perimeters where Class III or IV operation is required and variable speed control is a project or operational need. Class III and IV designate limited and restricted access applications — this operator is not for residential or general public-serving use.

2 HP Variable Speed Operation

The primary distinction of the 9220 over the 9210 is its variable speed drive. Speed is user-adjustable from 1/2 to 2 ft/sec, with slow-start and slow-stop operation providing controlled acceleration and deceleration on every cycle. This reduces mechanical stress on the gate hardware over time and gives installation teams flexibility to set gate speed to match facility traffic flow and security requirements. The 9210 operates at a fixed speed; the 9220 is the specification when adjustable speed control is a requirement.

Fail-Secure Operation

The 9220 is a fail-secure operator. An electrical interlock prevents the gate from starting during manual operation, and the power boost start circuit ensures reliable engagement on each operating cycle. The gate remains under controlled authorization at all times.

Chain and Mounting

The 9220 uses #60 roller chain and ships with chain brackets, hardware, and 20 ft of #60 chain. The heavy-duty mounting pedestal (9200-135) is recommended for gates over 1,500 lbs and is required when using the chain tray kit. The minimum gate length for the 9220 is 20 ft — installations with gates shorter than 20 ft should specify the 9210.

Electrical and Control

The 9220 accepts 208, 230, or 460 VAC input. Features include adjustable partial open, anti-tailgating, selectable stop/reverse loop function, direct-driven limit switches for precise gate control, solid-state motor relays, power boost start circuit, and built-in power and reset switches. Two 115 VAC outlets and two plug-in loop detector ports (DKS detectors only) are integrated.

Gate Tracker Reporting

The 9220 includes Gate Tracker output compatible with DKS 1833, 1835, 1837, and 1838 access control systems (2358 expansion board required) for centralized operator monitoring across multi-gate facilities.

The 9220 is ETL Listed by Intertek, Made in the USA, and backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Housing is G90 galvanized steel painted charcoal grey with a stainless steel access door. Operating range: 10°F to 140°F (-12°C to 62°C).

9220 vs 9210 — Key Differences

The 9220 and 9210 share the same Class III/IV rating and 100 ft maximum gate length, but differ in two meaningful ways. The 9220 runs a 2 HP motor with user-adjustable variable speed from 1/2 to 2 ft/sec and slow-start/slow-stop — the specification when speed control is operationally required. The 9210 runs a 1 HP motor at a fixed speed of approximately 1 ft/sec — simpler and sufficient when variable speed is not needed. The 9210 also accepts 115V input and handles gates starting from 10 ft; the 9220 requires 208V or higher and a minimum gate length of 20 ft.
